Double-crested cormorant nests at Quiver Lake

Quiver Lake, Mason County, Illinois

This double-crested cormorant colony is in a black willow woodland in the frequently flooded bottomlands of Quiver Lake, a backwater Lake connected to the Illinois River. Prothonotary warblers, red-headed woodpeckers, yellow-billed cuckoos, warbling vireos, tree swallows, and house wrens are numerous in these woods.
